Torn Between: Seduced by the Billionaires
Chapter One
It started as a back rub but progressed into a frontal examination. Tyler’s hands ran through her hair as his mouth explored her breasts. Cami moved closer to her lover, hoping to give him an ample supply of her body to enjoy while bringing his hand to eye level so she could check out his ring finger. He chuckled as she pretended to want to lick his fingers just so she could verify his status. He pulled away from her momentarily and held up both hands.
“No ring. No tan line. No regrets,” he offered. His deep brown eyes drew her in when she looked at him. He was telling the truth. His divorce had been final for over a year but the ring just came off three weeks ago.
“No time,” Cami responded, wrapping her arms around him, indulging in a sensuous kiss.
“What?”
“There’s no time to talk,” she whispered in his ear, licking the outside rim which always drove him wild. “We should be leaving for work soon.”
Nuzzling her neck his hands continued to rub her breasts and pull at her nipples, sending chills down her spine and enlivening her body. He responded to her concern with another quick chuckle.
“You’re adorable. You don’t have to worry about that. I’m your boss, remember?”
“There’s still no time.” Cami pressed against him trying to guide his hand between her legs.
“Why?” He asked more forcefully.
“Because,” she gasped, leaned back on the couch and opened her body to his touch. “I want you, now.”
He reached down and placed his hand on her mound, putting just enough pressure as he looked in her eyes. He spoke in a voice she recognized but was not anticipating.
“Hey, little sister, what have you done?”
“Um…Tyler?”
“Hey, little sister, who’s the only one?”
“Why are you singing? Tyler, what’s wrong?”
“Hey, little sister, who’s your superman?”
“Damn it!” Cami shouted, rising up from her bed and checking her alarm clock. “Dreamus Interruptus. Again. Why does this freaking thing go off every time he’s about to make a move?”
Her body was wet and tight from the arousing dream that didn’t achieve resolution. She let her hand drop between her legs and thought for a moment about finishing what her dream started, but it was getting late and the actual Tyler Bach might not find her lateness so adorable. By the time Billy Idol was able to advise the frustrated woman it was a nice day for a white wedding, she was in the shower getting ready for work.
Grafton, Maryland was a typical small town with two notable distinctions. It was the last town on the Metro Red Line feeding into the famed Technology Corridor and it was built into the side of a mountain. The second characteristic made everything easy to figure out. Central Street ran, understandably, through the center of town. On one side at the flat base of the mountain, where the streets were all numbered, lived poor working class folks who supplied hard labor for the chemical plants, paper mill and scrap metal processors. On the other, progressing up the hill, were the wealthy citizens and DC commuters with better jobs and seeing better days than their low-altitude townsfolk. The farther up the mountain you lived, the more money you made.
Of course, being in a higher tax bracket had its disadvantages too. The largest was the steep mountain pass you had to go up to get to the higher elevations and ritzy neighborhoods. In the winter, when ice and snow covered the roads, upward mobility became downright treacherous. You could tell how much money anyone in town had by the quality of their snow tires. Cami’s SUV had four tread, super sidewall tires that ensured her trip down the mountain would be as safe as possible. She wasn’t always that well-stocked.
Her biological father, William Hill, was a night supervisor at the chemical plant and her mom, Janet, worked at Super Save as a daytime checker. By the time she was six her father found that night work and day sleeping was aging him quickly and night work and day screwing around with a woman from the VFW was killing his marriage. Cami never knew if her parents actually got divorced or if her dad just stopped coming home. Those were tough times. Her mom had men in and out, none of them too steady, until Johnny Rhodes moved in. He worked at the paper-mill and smelled of glue and gin. Cami got a job at Burger Heaven to avoid the midnight fights at home while she finished high school. She had worked hard ever since.
Eventually Cami’s mom realized her daughter was too young and too busty to be left in the trailer with Johnny all the time. Arrangements were made for Cami to move in with her dad. However, a week before the transfer was supposed to happen, Will fell into a vat of acid wash and perished screaming Cami’s name. A tragedy in every sense, it left Cami with enough insurance money for college and an unshakeable belief that the closer you get to needing a man, the more likely he is to abandon you.
Two years later when Cami graduated near the top of her class at Grafton High, she discovered Janet and Johnny dipped into her college fund on occasion “just to get them through.” There wasn’t enough left for anything but secretarial school. This produced Cami’s other surety about men. If you have more than they do, they won’t stop until they have it all.
Parking her car in the stickered lot, she took out her tablet while waiting for the train and ordered herself the same black coffee and bagel she ate every morning. Then she checked her email to see if Mr. Bach wanted anything special with his latte. Dropping the tablet back in her bag as the Red Line pulled into her station, she smiled knowing by the time she got to the Coffee Carol on the first floor of her office building her order would be rea
dy and her day could start over on a better note.
“Hi, Miss Hill,” Jasmine chimed as she handed her the bag and her coffees. Her smile faded as soon as she watched Cami digging for the tablet. Wrong order. Again.
“Jasmine, I ordered three jelly donuts for Mr. Bach and a bagel. Why do I have a bag with a bear claw?” Cami held up the tablet to confirm the error was not hers.
“I’m so sorry, Miss Hill,” the girl responded. She put the correct order together, knowing any other explanation would be useless. “That sure is a nice tablet. Next generation? I’d love to get me one like that for school.”
“Well, keep working or find a way for extra money. Working is getting.” Cami didn’t mean to be so preachy, but she grew up with the knowledge nothing is free and felt compelled to pass that along to the next generation.
“I believe that.” Jasmine smiled as she watched Cami head for the elevators. When the silver plated doors closed she added, “just like I believe those donuts are for Mr. Bach, fat bitch.”
“Thank God you’re finally here!” Tyler blurted as she walked through the door and put down her bag. Pacing around her office frantically, he looked like a man who was either about the go on stage for the first time or be executed at dawn. When Eddie Dunning was scheduled to meet with Tyler, it always seemed like the latter.
“I’m twenty minutes early,” Cami responded calmly. “The conference room is prepped and I’ll have the taping mechanism date stamped and started in a few minutes. There is a meeting agenda for each of you, plus extra copies for anyone he brings along. The research council guideline memo is on your desk and I highlighted the points you and Mr. Dunning need to go over. Now go eat your donuts, look over your notes and I’ll come and get you once the chicken is settled in the nest.”
“Thanks, Cam. Have I told you you’re the best?”
“Not since yesterday.” With Tyler in his office munching his way to a sugar high, Cami went to the bookshelf recorder, put in a new tape and spoke into the machine. “This is Camellia Hill, Executive Assistant for Mr. Tyler Bach, Dyes Industries CEO…”
***
After she finished recording the date, time and expected participants of the meeting, she left the machine on “voice activation” and went back to her desk. Tyler wasn’t normally paranoid enough to use the hidden recorder for most business, but with Eddie Dunning a record of events was always a good idea.
“Damn,” Cami muttered as she looked down to see a run in her hose snaking all the way up her leg. She opened a drawer in her desk, pulled out another pair and headed for the bathroom. Cami was at that cusp weight—size 18. Not heavy enough for plus sized hose, but not thin enough to put them on without stretching them to the breaking point. Several minutes of squirming and cussing later, she adjusted her Isaac Hazan skirt and went back to find the meeting participants standing in the lobby.
“There she is,” Eddie Dunning boomed as he reached out and took Cami by the hand. “My world is sunnier already just seeing you.”
“Thank you, Mr. Dunning. How are you today?”
“Better now that I’m near you,” Eddie piled so much praise on everyone he saw in the first five minutes most people never noticed his cunning, ego or manipulation until it was far too late. Cami knew the profuse adulation was only the first act, but she found it charming nonetheless. She would never tell Tyler, but she liked Eddie’s brash ways and found his broad-shouldered body to be quite attractive.
“Mr. Jennings, how are you?” Cami took her hand out of Eddie’s meaty palm and offered it to his frighteningly thin, well-mannered vice president of acquisitions.
“Quite well, Miss Hill. And yourself?”
Before Cami could answer, Eddie wandered into the conference room and was making enough noise not only to activate the hidden recorder, but also any earthquake detector in a two block radius. Tyler grabbed his portfolio and sat across the table from his longtime foe.
“How’s it going, Ty?” Dunning asked loudly. He knew Tyler didn’t like to be called by that schoolboy moniker, but that’s what made it so much fun.
“It’s going great,” Tyler said with an unusual amount of confidence. Tyler was the younger of the two and normally skittish around Eddie but today he was as calm and confident as if he got to the meeting by walking on water. “How’s tricks at DRAG…er…I mean Dunning Research Group?”
“Peachy keen,” Eddie smirked, his false good humor beginning to fade. “You know what we call Dyes Industries? Since you paid a multimillion dollar contract to that Russian atom-jockey Sovich, we just call you all “DIE”—because that move is going to kill this place in the end.”
“Well, I suppose you should count your blessings then,” Tyler responded with a shark-toothed grin. “Since Andrew Sovich turned down your million dollar offer in favor of mine, you don’t have to worry about him.”
Cami and Harold Jennings stood in the doorway observing the two predators circle each other looking for an opening to the kill.
“Geez, is this a business meeting or Animal Kingdom?” Cami asked as they watched the verbal sparring continue.
“You know what they remind me of?” Harold asked, his pencil thin fingers toying with the edge of his agenda. “Duelers. Back in the days when gentlemen dueled, each one would bring a ‘second’ to prep his weapon, witness the event and carry his body back home. That’s what we are Miss Hill, we are the ‘seconds.’”
“What happens when they tire of shooting at each other?” she asked quietly.
“They will start shooting at us. We best get in there,” Harold added with a wry smile. The truth of his comment revealing a gloomy foreshadowing of her future.
The meeting lasted over an hour, each man struggling and sparring over every plan and decision. It turned out to be relatively productive until Eddie was ready to leave.
“Camellia, how’s about you leave too tall Tyler over there and come to work for me? With you by my side we could make a mint and have fun doing it.” Eddie took her hand again and looked earnestly in her direction.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Dunning.” Cami kept her professional demeanor. “I’m under contract.”
“Contracts end, Camellia darlin’, and doors open to people who bring things with them.”
“Hey now.” Tyler jumped into the conversation. “Are you trying to steal my assistant or my formulas or both?”
Eddie laughed loudly and let his eyes feast upon Cami. He purposely stopped at her breasts, big and full, before letting them travel the length of her legs then refocusing on her soft hazel eyes and stylish chestnut hair.
“Oh Ty, don’t you worry,” the older man responded. “I wouldn’t pay a plug nickel for any ratty old formula you get out of Sovich but I’d sell the farm to stable a talent like your assistant.”
“Fortunately, she’s not a horse,” Tyler responded brusquely as the stench of jealousy filled the room. Unaccustomed to being fought over by two billionaires, each the CEO of a pharmaceutical research company and each with his own uniquely attractive features, Cami blushed and walked back to her office praying the men didn’t start snarling in the hallway. Tyler walked into her office and handed her a slip of paper.
The paper read, “Get your Metro card and your ID. Leave your purse behind. Come to my office and don’t say a word to anyone. Bring this note with you.” Quickly, she found her SmarTrip card and pulled her driver’s license out of her wallet. Just to be careful she also took her bank card in case she needed some cash and hid it in her skirt pocket. Full of curiosity and a little fear, she walked into Tyler’s office and handed him the paper back.
“Great! Let’s go!” He crumbled up the paper and tossed it, making a decent three-point shot. He always complained his height made people encourage him to play basketball, but he was pretty good. Grabbing Cami by the hand he guided her quickly through the maze of cubicles as she struggled to keep up with the pace. She felt like a child being ushered through the mall, her small steps desperate to keep up with a lon
g-legged relative.
“Mr. Bach, I have these…” Kendra, the receptionist approached him.
“Not now!” Tyler barked and pulled Cami into the hall, down the stairs and through a side door in the back of the building. The hurried businessman broke into a run, only to stop when he realized Cami was falling far behind him, her legs moving as fast as they could.
“What on earth?” Cami gasped as she stopped for a moment panting and out of breath. Tyler looked around to see if anyone heard or noticed them. “Is this is about Dunning…”
“No talking now,” he said. Standing directly in front of her he put a hand on each of her round shoulders and steadied her. The feel of his warm hands and weight of him holding her revived her earlier dream and she felt her body begin to moisten with the prospect he might be going to kiss her. “You’ll have to trust me, Cami. I’ll explain, but now we have to hurry.”
Letting go of her, he resumed his forward momentum walking quickly and guiding them through the Metro until they were on the Red Line heading north.
Maybe he is taking me to my house, Cami thought, looking out the window as the buildings zoomed by. She remembered him from the morning dream, his body so close to entering her. Her mouth tinged with the taste of his kiss. Yes, he’s taking me there to ravish me. Of course, that would be difficult since my keys are at the office locked in my desk with my purse.
When the computerized voice announced the Strathmore stop, he poked her in the shoulder.
“This is our stop,” he said, getting up to stand by the door.
“But this is Bethesda,” Cami protested. “I live in Grafton.”
“I know,” Tyler looked at her as if she had sprouted tentacles. Cami blushed when she realized she was so lost in her sexual fantasy she actually protested when it turned out not to be the plan.
Fortunately, whatever made him run from the office didn’t seem to bother him once they found themselves on Strathmore Street. He stopped in a park-side deli and bought them both a picnic lunch. They sat down and Tyler began to explain things to his silent and stunned assistant who was just happy to find herself on an unexpected date in the park.
